句法作用

独立主格结构在句中通常作状语，表示时间、原因、条件和伴随状况。如：

1. 表示时间

Lunch finished (When lunch was finished), the guests went back home.

吃完午饭后，客人们都回家了。

2. 表示原因

Her shirt caught on a nail(As her shirt was caught on a nail), she had to ask others for help.

由于裙子被钉子钩住，她不得不向别人求助。

3. 表示条件

Weather permitting (If weather permits), we’ll go hunting tomorrow.

如果天气允许的话，我们明天去打猎。

4. 表示伴随状况

The children were watching TV, their eye (being) wide open.

孩子们在看电视，眼睛睁得很大。
